The birth of Spanish Jam!

Personally, I prefer the versions from 1/20 and 1/23, but this almost 16 minute debut is extraordinary! It's truly hard to believe this is the first time it was performed. Make no mistake about it, prior to 1/17/68, the band had never come close to this level of jazzy sophistication. The folks at the Carousel must have been blown away. Why is this show not archived here?

1-17, 1-20, 1-22 (?), and 1-23 are all nice ones in my rotation (thanks for the tips, way back when...the 1-22 is disputed/confused, I recall [as to exact show/date]).

stuck at Kennedy for three hours, but ...

the first ever Spanish Jam - with an Anchor Steam or two or three - is certainly helping the time pass quickly !!

a fun little BIODTL (with Jer's guitar way up) and good Dew follow.

thanks Cliff.

An interesting show, but the recording is all but ruined by this horribily loud crotch-cricket of a hum all through most of the show. I guess the PA was having an exorcism performed on it. Luckily it was fixed for the next Carousel gig on 2/14/68.
